Ecquaria forged the first Web Services Alliance (WSA) in Singapore 2003
Singapore (25 Jun 2003) – Ecquaria Technologies, Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, Green Dot Internet Services, Oracle Corporation Singapore and Sun Microsystems today announced the launch of the Web Services Alliance (www.webservicesalliance.org), a business alliance that connects business service providers, business service consumers and business service syndicators through a dynamic network of business-level Web Services.
The first of its kind in the world, the Web Services Alliance creates a community of members who support the Alliance’s objective of offering business Web Services for syndication by other members. The result is a rich network of usable business Web Services that members can leverage on dynamically to enhance their own businesses.
Driven by business value creation, the members have joined forces in this groundbreaking alliance to forge closer business relationships, catalyze cooperative arrangements, including co-branding and demand-generation endeavors, and create greater business values for members and their customers.
With today’s launch, the alliance is introducing Singapore’s first ‘live’ business Web Services. Esplanade’s Web Services are deployed with the Ecquaria Service-Oriented Platform™ on Esplanade’s core entertainment infrastructure and is powered by Sun’s Java technologies.
Esplanade’s Web Services have been successfully syndicated by CAN.COM.SG. on its website managed by Green Dot Internet Services. Esplanade’s Web Services are seamlessly accessible to members of CAN.COM.SG and the services are easily and rapidly deployed with little added investments in terms of cash and technologies.
Esplanade’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Benson Puah said, ‘It’s always exciting to be a pioneer and once again, Esplanade is delighted to be a member of a groundbreaking alliance. This union of technology and the arts will change the way the public access real-time information, broadening information distribution channels to make the arts even more accessible. We hope that the network of collaboration will grow to include more strategic members thereby creating even further value with more content and distribution channels to make this service a dynamic part of today’s lifestyle.’
At a time when organizations are pursuing opportunities to increase revenue by offering value added services to their customers, engage in marketing collaborations, and extend their existing investments on their IT infrastructure, the Web Services Alliance represents a strong enabler in making this possible for the members through re-branding, cross-selling and up-selling of their contents and services.
With the announcement of the launch, the Web Services Alliance UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery and Integration) Business Registry will be available as a public service for members to register their Web Services and for the public to search for desired services online.
Organizations interested to join the Web Services Alliance can visit the website www.webservicesalliance.org for details.
Ecquaria’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Foong Wai Keong said, ‘This Alliance is the first of its kind in the world, and is a landmark achievement for all members. We share a common vision for how organizations can leverage cutting-edge technology to deliver efficient and cost-effective services and create new business models that were not possible before.’
‘There is widespread consensus in the Alliance that industry-driven initiatives shouldn’t be owned or controlled by any one player. Instead, we need an open and transparent system operating in a web of trust. The Web Services Alliance is an important keystone in that direction. I am confident that it will provide a successful network of innovative business Web Services for all members to leverage on.’ he added.
Green Dot Internet Services’ Chief Executive Officer, Dr Francis Yeoh said, “The syndication of Esplanade’s business Web Services in CAN.COM.SG forms part of our plan to develop a suite of relevant Web Services such as commercial map-based information and e-Marketing services that we intend to publish on MIW, the portal for national servicemen. This, in turn, will help to contribute even more Web Services to the Alliance. We hope to find the right Alliance members to partner with us in similar business collaboration.’
‘Oracle helps deliver the most advanced support for Web Services in the industry, and we’re proud to be a key technology partner in this groundbreaking Web Services Alliance.’ said Stanley Chew, managing director, Oracle Corporation Singapore. ‘The Alliance is a catalyst for companies in Singapore to aggregate technology as services, by creating a viable ecosystem that enables companies to enable each others’ Web Services capabilities with pooled technology resources.’
Chew added, ‘We believe Web Services transform organizations in two important ways: a business transformation that enables them to offer new, valuable and improved ways of conducting business, opening up new channels of opportunity via the Internet; and a technology transformation that will significantly ramp up the quality and potential of an organization’s enterprise applications, for example, improving the time to market for new products and services.’
‘The Web Services Alliance promotes an environment for members to create new business values across their ecosystems. And, Sun is proud to be a pioneer member of this alliance. By providing interoperability and delivering an open, standards based infrastructure for business integration, Sun’s Java Web Services can help enable customers to more quickly, easily and cost effectively integrate business and legacy systems — essentially letting them integrate once and run virtually anywhere,’ said Wong Heng Chew, Managing Director, Singapore, Sun Microsystems.
‘Over time, the alliance will generate an exciting critical mass of services and business offerings, covering various industries. This means members will be leveraging on a new platform to promote greater business opportunities, greater collaboration flexibility, greater value add to customers, and close to the heart of every business – greater cost efficiency.’ he added.
